When friends move away, promises of 'we'll come visit,' though sincere, are
hard to keep. Such is the case for chefs John and Karen Shields, who left
the culinary hustle of Chicago for rural Virginia in 2008.

Although the couple (veterans of Alinea and Charlie Trotter's) haven't
suffered for company since taking over the 30-seat restaurant Town House
http://www.townhouseva.com/ (John was recently named one of this year's
Best New Chefs http://www.foodandwine.com/bestnewchefs/john-shields by
Food & Wine magazine), they're now offering a way to get a taste of their
food without packing a bag.

Gourmet edibles from the Town House kitchen are now available from the
just-launched line Riverstead Provisions
http://www.townhouseva.com/shop.html , named for Riverstead, the upscale
inn and sister property of Town House.

Its offerings spotlight the purveyors around the Shields' adopted region.
Anson Mills http://www.ansonmills.com/ , Lyttle Farm
http://lyttlefarm.com/ and Cruze Dairy
http://cruzefarmgirl.blogspot.com/ make appearances in items like the
handmade Rising Seeds Granola ($14), yellow-grits sandies ($9) and Red Fife
graham crackers ($9), while local roaster Dark Hollow Roastery
http://www.darkhollowcoffee.com/ supplies coffee ($10).

The hand-packaged goods are on sale at Riverstead and online, starting this
week. The Shieldses hope to increase their inventory by selling more of
their own creations as well as local products like honey, grains and
cheese, giving broader exposure to their neck of the woods.
