Seven Days, Infinite Sips

Riesling Week 2010 is here

As if anyone needed an excuse to celebrate one of the world's finest grapes, here comes Riesling Week 2010.

This versatile wine is famously friendly with a variety of foods, thanks to its refreshing acidity. And the broad range of styles in which the noble grape is made could be a source of lifetime study: After all, Rieslings from Germany, Austria and Alsace are all distinctive and the ripeness pendulum swings from dry (Trocken) to intensely sweet (Eiswein).

So take a six-day immersion course for the sixth annual Riesling Week from July 26 through August 1.

You'll have ample opportunities to admire--and drink--Riesling: Restaurants like Frontera Grill and C-House will be featuring special pours and flights and food pairings and top wine shops like Provenance Food & Wine and Cabernet & Company Fine Wine Shop will be pouring free tastings.

Now, if only the celebration were a month rather than a week.
