TT Leftovers: August Edition

Don't let the final tastes of summer pass you by

There are precious few days of summer left (as last weekend's weather gently reminded us). Make each and every one of them count with some of August's best seasonal discoveries.

• Rick Gresh's weekly al fresco market-to-table dinners at Primehouse are scheduled to run through October. But for supreme enjoyment, go soon, before the nighttime temperature falls and seasonal ingredients drop off the menu.

• Speaking of tomatoes, the many-hued beauties are at their best right now, and rarely look better than when dressed up with a little bacon, lettuce, aioli and rustic bread. The TomatoFest BLT Bonanza is still going strong, so head to one of the 16 participating restaurants today.

• Turning lemons into limoncello is a no-brainer with chef John des Rosiers' recipe. Yuzu and key lime juice put a new spin on the old-school liqueur.

• Also perfect for an outdoor party: Fritz Pastry's Summer Afternoon Cake. This subtly sweet dessert begs to be drizzled with honey and enjoyed with the sun on your face and the breeze in your hair.

• Oak Park isn't going anywhere, but it's never been more picnic-friendly than right now. We've got your summer Saturday eating itinerary all worked out--with plenty of time to visit a few Frank Lloyd Wright classics, of course.
