TT Leftovers: October Edition

Spastic weather aside, October has been a delectable month

The Publican's waffles | Craig Perman | Wave's street food

The leaves have since changed, but these October bites are just as good as they were the first time around. Keep 'em in mind as you head into another month of good eating.

• Tomorrow is Green City Market's last day outdoors. Pick up some fresh fruit (plums, if you can find them, or apples and pears) and use it to make a topping for some of the best waffles we've ever eaten: The Publican's. We got you the recipe so you can enjoy them at home.

• Another great source for weekend brunch fodder is West Town's new La Farine Bakery. Artisanal bread baker Rida Shahin has added an eclectic selection of pastries to his repertoire, making La Farine one of the city's best spots for sweet stuff.

• Old Town Social gets clubby at night, but early in the evening--and during the day on the weekends--it's a prime spot for serious food. Chef Jared Van Camp is a curing fanatic (sit at the charcuterie bar for an up-close view), and also makes one of the tastiest fried eggs in the city.

• We love great wine, and we love great deals. We've found a glorious combination of the two: Perman Wine Selection's monthly six for $60. Craig Perman's also the man to see about esoteric requests, difficult pairings and, of course, other excellent wine bargains.

• Are Chicago's street-cart-prohibitive vendor laws getting you down? Us too. Thankfully Kristine Subido has come up with a solution: a weekly street-food menu at her restaurant, Wave.
