Inside Track

Green City Market may be moving--but it's not slowing down

Last year was the first year-round farmers' market in Green City Market's 10-year history.

Starting Saturday, the winter market is back, with almost twice as many farmers (46 have signed up) and a new roster of chef demos, tastings and events.

Just look for the big-top tent in the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum's parking lot. The market is outdoors through December 23, then moves inside--with a wild game-themed launch party--on January 16 (find 2010 market dates here).

Look for these highlights--along with standard root-cellar fodder--as winter sets in:

Nordic Creamery will have cultured butter, whose sour-cream-like flavor has a cult following (find them on November 14, December 12 and 19, and January 16).

Brunkow is debuting a brand new cheese on Saturday: Pave Henri, a soft, stinky, washed-rind cheese made from the milk of a single herd of Jersey cows.

Mint Creek Farm will be offering more beef cuts (like tenderloin and stew meat), more veal and chickens by the end of the year.

Kinnikinnick will have a full stock of pesto, and will start selling chickens and eggs in February.

Floriole Bakery's fall line will be in full swing, with pecan tarts, cranberry conserve, pumpkin seed brittle and more.
