Hats Off
Hatfield's is now one of the best dining deals in town
When the economy started tanking, Quinn and Karen Hatfield didn't come up with recession-dining gimmicks for Hatfield's--they just lowered their prices.
Before, dinner at the charming neighborhood bistro would set you back at least $80 per person; now it's three courses for only $49. The Hatfields still offer expertly prepared dishes that spotlight the best seasonal and locally sourced ingredients, but they've streamlined the menu.
You might find perfect little mustard green-and-ricotta-filled pasta with braised bacon and bright green fava beans, or a delicate butter lettuce salad with goat cheese, hazelnuts and fig vinaigrette. Meltingly good branzino gets texture and crunch from dried apricots, almonds and capers, and a sweet date glaze is fantastic on tender lamb chops. Desserts range from a light lemon tart with huckleberries to hot, fluffy beignets with chocolate dipping sauce.
You can still order à la carte, but why would you? With reasonably priced wines from around the globe, inventive fresh-fruit cocktails, and great service in a relaxed dining room, there's no reason to keep Hatfield's in the "special occasion column" anymore. This is Champagne-taste dining on a Prosecco budget.
