City Editor -- Washington D.C.
Tasting Table is hiring an editor to manage our Washington D.C. edition, launching this December
This is an exciting opportunity to join our rapidly growing start-up. The ideal candidate will be an experienced writer or editor who has his or her finger on the pulse of metro D.C. eating and drinking culture. Tasting Table covers not only new restaurants and bars but also tried-and-true establishments. The editor must have significant experience covering food, wine and/or spirits and deep network of writers and industry acquaintances. And, of course,the editor must be a great writer, a terrific home cook, an adventurous diner, an armchair sommelier and an aspiring mixologist. A sense of humor and a consistent caffeination level preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Produce one original, inspired Washington D.C. e-mail (max 175 words) every weekday across our content areas: dining, wine, cocktails, spirits, cooking, restaurant buzz, food events, food travel
- Represent Tasting Table in Washington. Evangelize our brand by telling everyone who will listen about our awesome daily e-mail publication.
- Manage a network of contacts, publicists, freelancers, and tipsters to feed you great content ideas.
- Remain plugged in to our New York headquarters to collaborate on marketing, events and other shared aspects of the Tasting Table enterprise.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required. Liberal Arts or journalism background preferred.
- Three years work experience in food media (food journalism, magazines, online media, et al.; being an experienced writer who likes to eat is not adequate qualification for this role. The editor must already be active in the Washington food scene.)
- At least three years full-time residence in Washington.
- A complete and thorough understanding of Tasting Table's editorial approach, style and tone.
- Wit / humor. Ability to produce a serious work product without taking yourself too seriously.
- Grown-up time-management and organization skills.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Ability to motivate yourself every day: This is a home-based position in which all of your daily work occurs using collaboration tools on the Internet and over the phone.
- Obsessive attention to punctuation and accuracy of facts, names, times, addresses, etc.
- Impervious to writer's block. Doesn't make excuses. Loves this business.

Sales Account Executive
TastingTable.com, the daily email devoted to the best of food & drink culture, has an opening for an advertising sales account executive. If you have a strong understanding of the online advertising industry, a hunger to succeed in a growing start-up environment, and a love of food and drink, we want to hear from you.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
- Meet revenue goals through the sale of TastingTable.com advertising space within your assigned territory.
- Consistently prospect for new accounts and aggressively pursue new leads and sales opportunities from large-to-mid size organizations, "Top 2000" advertisers, major brands and advertising agencies.
- Establish and exercise effective sales techniques to develop new business, retain and expand existing business, and continually ensure understanding of clients' needs.
- Create persuasive sales presentations using Microsoft Office programs, iLife programs, market research, case studies and TastingTable.com marketing solutions.
- Maintain awareness of industry and consumer trends while keeping management appropriately informed of client and industry dynamics.
- Analyze campaign performance statistics and recommend optimized media solutions from the results.
The ideal candidate will have a BA/BS degree or equivalent, a minimum of 3 years media planning or 1 year of online sales experience with a top performance record and an extensive contact list.

Sales Intern
Tasting Table is seeking a Digital Sales Intern to support our growing start-up while gaining hands-on experience with digital advertising sales methods. Tasting Table internships are unpaid but structured to provide the intern relevant exposure to online sales strategy and execution, in addition to valuable networking opportunities with taste makers and business people in the food, wine and spirits sector. Tasting Table attempts to provide each intern with immediate, real-life experience that can be used later to find paid work. The marketing intern should be able to commit 10-15 hours per week (one or two days a week) working with Tasting Table for a period of at least three months.
The exact breadth of responsibilities and learning opportunities for the Sales Intern may be customized, based on the applicant's professional requirements. Typical responsibilities include:
- Working with our Digital Sales Team to build custom advertising proposals for our national advertising clients.
- Brainstorming, designing and testing seasonal ad campaign concepts that can be pitched to our top clients.
- Preparing pipeline reports for management to identify and make sense of pipeline trends.
- Seeking out advertising opportunities online and recommending potential initiatives to the Digital Ad Sales Team.
- General office assistance for the ad sales team.
- Special projects, as needed.
Qualifications and Expectations:
- High school degree required. Must be at least 18 years old. Tasting Table welcomes applications from interns who are either college interns (for credit or not) or currently unemployed professionals between jobs who are looking to make a career transition into this area.
- Minimum commitment of 10-15 hours per week (location: Soho area).
- Excellent written and spoken communication.
- Must have excellent computer skills. Proficiency with presentation, word processing and spreadsheet software required.
- Great interpersonal skills.
- Strong work ethic and independent work style.
- Expert Googling capabilities and insatiable hunger for finding data online, digesting it, and making sense of it.
- Interest and knowledge of New York dining is a plus.
