Homemade Orgeat Almond Syrup Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 cup raw almonds
  • 1 ½ cups hot water
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon orange blossom water
  • 2 tablespoons vodka
Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Spread the almonds out on a baking sheet, and bake for 8 minutes. When they are done, let them cool for 5 minutes. Put the almonds in a food processor, and blitz until a crumb-like blend has formed.
  2. Pour the ground almonds into a medium bowl, and add the hot water. Let this sit on the counter for 2 hours.
  3. Pour the almond and water mixture through a mesh bag or tea towel. Squeeze the bag tightly to remove all of the water, then discard the nut pulp.
  4. Add this almond liquid to a saucepan over medium heat. Add the sugar, and stir for about 3 minutes. Add the orange blossom water and vodka. Let the mixture cool for 30 minutes, then put it in a glass container with a lid, and store it in the fridge.
