Drain the can of garbanzo beans over a bowl. Set the beans aside for another use. Save the liquid, also known as aquafaba, for use in the dredging process.
Trim the bottom 3 to 4 inches of the asparagus and discard the woody stems.
Pour the breadcrumbs into a medium bowl and combine with the garlic granules, salt, and pepper.
Pour the aquafaba into a shallow bowl.
Make sure the asparagus spears are very dry. Dip each spear into the aquafaba and then into the breadcrumb bowl making sure to get an even coating of breadcrumbs on each piece.
Lay the asparagus spears into the air fryer basket in a single layer with about ½ inch of space in between each one. Set the temperature to 400 F and cook for 5 minutes, then turn over each spear and cook for 5 more minutes. You will most likely have to work in batches.
Serve the air-fried asparagus right away with a dipping sauce of your choice. Optionally garnish with fresh parsley.
