Ingredients
½ cup milk
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 ¼ cups cornmeal
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon garlic granules
½ teaspoon salt
1 egg, beaten
2 tablespoons butter, melted
¼ cup red onion, chopped
1 tablespoon jalapeño, seeds and ribs removed, diced
1 cup vegetable oil
Directions
Combine the milk and apple cider vinegar in a bowl and set it aside.
In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, baking powder, garlic granules, and salt.
In a medium bowl, combine the egg, butter, red onion, and jalapeño.
Stir the milk and apple cider vinegar mixture in.
Now add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir well.
Roll the finished mixture into 12 round balls.
Add the oil to a large skillet and heat on high heat.
When the oil is hot, carefully add the dough balls and cook them for 3 to 4 minutes on each side.
When they are done, remove them from the pan with tongs and lay them out on a paper towel.
If desired, garnish the hush puppies with fresh dill and serve with your dip of choice.
