Michelin Guide Postones SF 2018 Release

In light of the fires, it's making a better gesture

In light of the Bay Area wildfires, the Michelin Guide is postponing its announcement of the San Francisco restaurants awarded stars this year. Instead, the guide has made a donation to the American Red Cross to honor those affected by the devastating blaze ravaging wine country.

The announcement was scheduled to be released tomorrow, with a physical copy following on Monday, October 16, though both are now delayed until further notice. Dominique Crenn, who invited the public into her restaurant to make sandwiches for the fire victims, took to Instagram to express support of this decision.

Additionally, many restaurants have closed, including Healdsburg newcomer, and seemingly star shoo-in, SingleThread—though chef Kyle Connaughton shared a photo of his staff who showed up anyway to cook for shelters and emergency responders. The French Laundry bakery provided complimentary coffee to locals, while the three-star restaurant remains shuttered for now. The Restaurant at Meadowood, another perennial guide standout, is also closed.
