Preheat your oven to 350 F. Grease a 8-inch baking dish or pie dish.
Halve the strawberries and place them in a small bowl. Mash the berries with the back of a fork to release their juices. Add the sugar and mix to combine with the berries. Set the bowl aside.
In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Whisk to combine.
Add the flour, baking powder, and salt to the liquid ingredients, and stir together to form a thick batter.
Turn the batter out onto the greased baking dish. Spread the batter out to form an even layer.
Pour the berries and their juices onto the batter, spreading them out to cover the batter.
Bake the cake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes until it is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Remove the cake from the oven and cool for 5 minutes. Serve and top with ice cream as desired.
