Bourbon Is The Secret To Sweet And Smoky Caramelized Onions
BY LUNA REGINA
Typical caramelized onions have a sweet richness, but when paired with bourbon, caramelized onion becomes richer, transforming even the most ordinary dish.
Use a mid-shelf brand of bourbon and add about ¼ or ½ of a cup to your caramelized onions toward the end of cooking. Cook for another 10 minutes, or until the liquid evaporates.
The result will be tender caramelized onions in a thick bourbon coating with a sweet yet umami depth perfect for sandwiches, bagels, burgers, or French onion soup.
