Do This Before Adding Veggies To Frozen Pizza
By CARA O'BLENESS
A staple amongst college kids and harried parents on weeknights, frozen pizza is a go-to shortcut to save both time and money. There are a few ways to improve the taste of frozen pizzas, such as adding extra toppings, and if you like to put veggies on your pie, don't skip these essential preparation steps.
Adding cheese, meats, and herbs to frozen pizza is fairly straightforward, but fresh vegetables should be seasoned first, and some watery or leafy veggies should also be precooked before putting them in the oven. Pretty much any veggie works as a pizza topping, and here's how to treat them for the best results.
Thinly slice your vegetables of choice, especially tomatoes, mushrooms, and other veggies with a high water content, and toss them with olive oil and seasonings, such as Italian seasoning or good old salt and pepper. Leafy greens like spinach or kale should be briefly sautéed with the oil and seasonings before putting them on the pie.
