Do You Really Need To Refrigerate Tortillas?
By KAREN HART
Tortillas are popular around the world, and with the increasing prices for food in general, we've definitely entered an era of waste not want not. That’s why knowing if your tortillas need to be stored in the refrigerator or can survive in a cabinet or on a counter is important intel.
Store-bought tortillas can last up to 45 days in both the refrigerator or at room temperature. Homemade tortillas, however, won’t last that long, and the refrigerator still isn’t the best option. Instead, they can be frozen and eaten at a later date.
If you won't be eating your tortillas within a few days, plan on freezing them. Corn tortillas are the only ones that you may want to consider storing in the fridge since they really only stay fresh for about 10 days if they are not refrigerated, but up to 8 weeks if they are.
