Elvis Presley Loved An Ultra-Sweet Sandwich Called Fool's Gold Loaf
BY STEPHANIE FRIEDMAN
Elvis Presley's taste in food may have been even more iconic than his musical accomplishments. One meal that he undoubtedly ate and loved was the Fool's Gold Loaf.
It cost $49.95 at the time and consisted of a loaf of Italian bread, margarine, entire jars of jelly and peanut butter, and one pound of bacon. The whole thing is then deep-fried.
Elvis first tried the sandwich at the Colorado Mine Company in Denver. If he did eat peanut butter-bacon-banana sandwiches, the Fool's Gold Loaf may have been the inspiration.
