Give Your Coleslaw A Juicy Twist With One Fruity Addition
BY JAMES HASTINGS
Nothing beats the freshness of a homemade coleslaw, but you can give it a juicier twist by adding fresh fruits. In particular, mandarin oranges are perfect for a juicier coleslaw.
Since mandarins are sweeter and less tart than their counterparts, their sweetness cuts through the creamy mayo and counters the acidity of the apple cider vinegar in the coleslaw.
So, they can truly stand up to a coleslaw's more intense ingredients. Simply peel the orange and separate the wedges, removing as much of the bitter pith as possible.
Then, dice each wedge into thirds and fold them through your finished coleslaw mix. To save time, you can use canned mandarin orange wedges, but drain them before chopping.
