Here’s The Best Type Of Cheese To Put On A Tuna Melt
BY AUSTIN HAVENS-BOWEN
When making a tuna melt, the type of cheese to select is one that melts well. You want a gooey, warm cheese pull that contrasts deliciously with the cold and creamy tuna salad.
For a classic take, use American cheese. Mozzarella also melts well, or try Gruyère for salty and nutty flavors, or provolone if you prefer a sharp cheese.
There’s a strong argument to stick with cheddar, but consider pepper Jack for heat or for a more unique take, use brie for richness (just don't forget to remove the rind).
The best way to melt the cheese is to toast it in a pan over medium-low heat, or in an oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for up to eight minutes.
