How To Smoothly Include Peanut Butter Into Your Iced Coffee
BY SIMONE GERBER
Coffee’s ability to complement and enhance other flavors is one of the reasons it's so beloved. When combined with peanut butter, the drink takes on a delectable, creamy twist.
However, mixing coffee and peanut butter can be a tricky task, especially when it comes to iced coffee. The fats in peanut butter fail to combine well with cold coffee.
The key is to shake, not stir, the peanut butter and coffee together for a smooth drink with a nutty and slightly sweet taste. This method will emulsify the two ingredients.
Emulsification involves suspending particles of fat (the peanut butter) in water (the coffee) by combining the two vigorously. Shaking is a powerful and efficient method.
Firstly, use a conventional peanut butter, which already contains emulsifying ingredients, over a natural brand. Soften it by warming it up for a few seconds in the microwave.
Pour your cold coffee, along with a spoonful of peanut butter, into a container with a lid, such as a mason jar. Shake the container vigorously until the peanut butter dissolves.
You can also use an immersion blender and a large bowl to blitz the peanut butter into the coffee. Even a basic whisk and a lot of elbow grease and stirring can work.
