Louis Armstrong's Favorite Food Was Worth Writing About
BY DEB KAVIS
Red beans and rice was Louis Armstrong's all-time favorite meal. In fact, his standard sign-off on handwritten letters was "Red Beans and Rice-ly Yours."
This phrase also became the title of his 1972 album recorded at the National Press Club. The album’s liner notes even included a myriad of the artist's favorite recipes.
The dish would later become known as "Pops Favorite.” Louis and his fourth wife Lucille documented the lengthy process of making Creole red beans and rice.
Today, there are quicker processes to making New Orleans red beans and rice, but the recipe remains a testament to their love of food and each other.
