Should You Butter The Bread Or The Pan For Grilled Cheese?
By TALIN VARTANIAN
A grilled cheese sandwich exudes textural contrast and buttery, cheesy flavors while being golden brown and toasted on the outside and warm and gooey on the inside. But should the butter go on each piece of bread evenly or go into a hot skillet? We'll explain this in more detail.
Even though it's simpler to melt some butter in a skillet, add the bread and cheese, and call it a day, it's advised to butter each slice of bread for more taste and better browning. Buttering the bread will also lessen the possibility of any burning.
Mayonnaise is a great alternative to butter because it gives the bread even more flavor and browning potential. Use full-fat mayonnaise rather than low-fat mayonnaise since light mayonnaise has less fat and more water, resulting in a sad, wet grilled cheese sandwich that won't crisp up well.
