Should You Shop At Costco Or Trader Joe's For The Best Ribeye Steak?
BY Melissa Cabey
Cost And Availability
Per pound, Trader Joe's ribeye costs $19.99, while Costco's is $16.99. However, Costco sells items in bulk; a four-piece ribeye pack can easily be over $85.
Costco provides much more bang for your buck, but not many people want to buy multiple pounds of meat in one go. Both the ribeyes are also readily available in the store.
Packaging
It's unclear where either company sources their meat from, but one Costco customer found that the chain’s meat comes from the same supplier as Sam's Club.
Both are packed on a tray and sealed with clear plastic. Costco's ribeye is labeled USDA Prime, while Trader Joe's is labeled USDA Choice, so it has less marbling.
Taste
Trader Joe's ribeye is incredibly tasty, easy to chew, fairly juicy, and full-bodied without being overwhelming, whereas Costco's is nicely juicy and filled with more depth.
The cut of Trader Joe's ribeye is much thinner than the Costco cut but with a good amount of marbling. The steak is a pale red compared to Costco's darker red color.
