The Best Way To Label Your Home-Canned Food

Canning is an excellent hobby for home cooks with overactive produce gardens, or those who just love to hand out edible gifts to friends and family. However, there are rules one should follow in order to create satisfying home-canned foods, prevent foodborne illness, and make the whole job easier, including tips and tricks about labeling.
Labeling your jars and cans is an overlooked but essential step in home canning, especially if you store different goods that look similar, like strawberry jam versus strawberry-lemon marmalade. You can print canning labels, write on strips of tape, or just use a Sharpie to label your containers, but the best place to put those labels is the lid.
