With their neutral flavor and high starch content, beans provide smoothies with a creamy texture, extra protein, and fiber, making for a satisfying dairy-free option.
Different beans suit different flavor combinations. Black beans complement chocolate due to their rich and earthy flavor, while navy beans best suit lighter smoothies.
Chickpeas, also known as garbanzo beans, have a gently nutty flavor that hides well in smoothies that include nut butters or tahini.
For the best results, drain the canned beans’ liquid to reduce the "bean-y" taste and give them a good rinse in a colander to wash away any excess sodium.
