The Reason You Should Never Overfill Your Slow Cooker
By SARAH MARTINEZ
A slow cooker is a great tool to have in your kitchen arsenal. Not only does it cook food low and slow, but it also contains everything in one pot, making it easier to clean up. They are great to use when you simply want to set it and forget it, but if you overfill your slow cooker you might end up with more work than you want.
According to Insider, slow cookers work best when filled about halfway to three-quarters. When filled all the way up to the top, the food might bubble over and spill out, and you may find the remaining food burned or stuck to the bottom of the pan. Also, when too full, the food may not cook evenly.
To avoid overfilling the pot, read the recipe and prep ingredients beforehand. To cook a larger amount of food than your slow cooker can handle, cook in batches. When making different dishes at the same time, you can use slow cooker liners to easily swap out different dishes without having to clean your slow cooker in between rounds.
