To give your next pan of hash browns next-level flavor with minimal effort, the trick is to grate onion and stir it in with the shredded potatoes as it cooks.
The grated onion will provide the same savory and pungent flavor you expect from garlic powder, but without the need to bite into small pieces.
Use one small onion every two servings of hash browns. Peel the onion, cut it in half, and grate it using the small holes of a grater, or you can use a food processor.
Regardless of technique, be sure to rain off any excess water and season the mixture with plenty of black pepper and salt. This works for homemade hash browns or store-bought ones.
