The Strawberry Capital Of The World Is Actually A California Seaside City
By STEPHANIE FRIEDMAN
California produces the most strawberries in the United States, and a single city within the Golden State is considered one of the strawberry capitals of the world.
Though it's not the only "Strawberry Capital of the World," Oxnard, California is very deserving of the title, since the town ships out 16 million trays of the fruit yearly.
Though Oxnard was an agricultural hub since the 1870s, it wasn’t until the mid-1900s that its strawberry industry flourished. It now generates $100 million in annual revenue.
The coastal town was also the birthplace of the California Strawberry Festival and hosted the festival from 1984 to 2019, when COVID-19 put a hiatus on the festivities.
While the Strawberry Festival is moving to Ventura in 2023, Oxnard is still a serious strawberry destination with its farm tours, strawberry picking events, and farmers' markets.
