The Unique Swiss Cheese Ina Garten Uses For Topping Tuna Melts
By ANNA STAROPOLI
Emmental is probably what you envision when you think of Swiss cheese. It’s yellow, filled with holes, and according to chef Ina Garten, is the perfect choice for a tuna melt.
"I like the way it looks," Garten says, "I like the way it melts. I like the way it tastes." She highlights that Emmerntal’s nuttiness complements the tuna melt’s other flavors.
Rather than use unified slices of the cheese, Garten grates her Emmental and incorporates it as a heap atop the tuna. Grating helps the cheese melt better, she explains.
To try it, top your sandwich with cheese, put it under the broiler for just a few minutes, wait for it to melt, and you'll quickly understand that Garten knows what she's doing.
