The Origin
The Double-Double burger landed on In-N-Out's menu in 1966 as the brainchild of company executive Robert Lang Sr. It was introduced at a new location in California.

He came up with the name in response to a growing number of customers requesting an extra patty and slice of cheese. It's one of the most celebrated contributions of his legacy.

Bible Verse On Wrapper
In-N-Out has deep religious roots, and it's woven into the fabric of the family business. Even the cups and wrappers here have Bible verses printed on them.
The Double-Double's wrapper has scripture Nahum 1:7 from the Old Testament, which reads, "The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him."

100% Ground Chuck
In-N-Out patties only use 100% ground chuck. It only comes from chuck steak, a primal cut near the shoulder muscle, where the connective tissue is denser.
It's also higher in fat and collagen and packs a lot of flavor. It's ideal for hamburgers because it holds its shape better than regular ground and retains more juice.
