Nuts are beneficial for many reasons — they make convenient, healthy snacks, they’re loaded with nutrients, they can lower harmful cholesterol levels, and they can even reduce inflammation associated with heart disease. However, different nuts can provide different benefits, so if you’re looking to up your protein intake, there’s one nut that contains more protein than any other.
Although technically a legume, peanuts are classified as nuts as far as nutrition goes, and they are the best nut to snack on for protein intake. A 100-gram serving of unroasted peanuts contains 25.8 grams of protein, while dry-roasted almonds with salt contain 20.4 grams. Plus, peanuts contain folate, and have high levels of antioxidants, amino acids, and minerals.
Before throwing peanuts into your next meal, know that not everyone should indulge in this healthy snack, as approximately one in 200 adults and one in 50 children is allergic to peanuts. For those of you allergy-free, there are many tasty ways to add peanuts to your daily diet, like some tasty homemade peanut brittle or a hearty peanut butter soup.
