Turn Canned Sardines Into An Umami-Packed Snack Using The Air Fryer
BY JULIA HOLLAND
Canned sardines are meaty, oily, and delightfully mild right out of the can, but you can turn them into even more delicious, umami-packed and crispy snacks by air frying them.
You can add sardines directly to the fryer, relying on the residual oil to crisp up their skin, or add textured seasonings, aromatics, bread crumbs, or even wet batter.
These add-ins help create a crust that really crisps up and adds depth of flavor. You can use a combination of these ingredients and techniques to prepare drained canned sardines.
Arrange them on a parchment or butcher paper lined fryer basket in a single layer to ensure even air-flow. Fry them at 400 degrees F for 10 to 15 minutes, flipping halfway through.
