Botanically speaking, cucumbers are fruits since they contain seeds and develop from a plant's flowers. However, these technicalities do not really matter in the culinary world.
Among chefs and dietitians, the classification of produce is often defined by its purpose. If it's soft and sweet, it's a fruit, and if it's tough and savory, it's a vegetable.
