What To Do When Your Honey Crystallizes (And How To Prevent It From Happening)
BY JENNA WOS
Crystalized honey may seem impossible to remove from the jar, but you can quickly return it to its liquid state without altering its taste by simply adding heat.
Place the jar of honey in a bowl of warm water until it softens. Note that it shouldn't exceed 95 degrees Fahrenheit, at which point it will lose some nutritional value.
Crystallization happens because honey is supersaturated, meaning there is more sugar than water, so the sugar can't stay dissolved forever, eventually leading to crystallization.
To prevent crystallization long term, store the honey below 50 degrees Fahrenheit and let it come to room temperature before you use it.
If you use honey often, store it between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit which will delay the crystallization long enough for you to use up the honey.
