What You Should Know About Costco's 25 Year Supply Food Bucket
BY BRIAN UDALL
The emergency food bucket from Readywise, formerly Wise Foods, available at Costco boasts 25 years of shelf-life. While it's a good, affordable brand, it isn't devoid of criticism.
Packed away in a 5-gallon bucket are 150 servings of food items ranging from instant white rice to pasta alfredo and from crunchy granola to tomato basil soup.
However, when the brand was still known as Wise Foods, a single serving of food sold by the company was nutritionally well below what someone would actually need to survive.
The rebrand to Readywise happened alongside changes to its products, including more transparency around serving sizes, but there still are some drawbacks.
Mainly, the bucket is high in sodium, with just a single serving of its teriyaki rice boasting 270 calories but a full 700 milligrams of sodium, which is way higher than required.
