What’s The Difference Between An Impossible Burger And A Beyond Burger?
By JENNIFER AMOS
Plant-based foods are becoming more and more common in grocery stores and restaurants, and two of the most recognizable brands are Impossible Foods and Beyond Meats. While the two companies have similar products and inspirations, there are a few notable differences between their burger offerings.
The Impossible Burger is made of soy protein concentrate, with sunflower and coconut oils for fat, and heme, a molecule found in soy, is what gives the burgers their meaty flavor. Impossible Burgers come in at 230 calories with 19 grams of protein, but although they're vegan and gluten-free, they should be avoided by anyone with soy allergies.
The Beyond Burger is made with pea and rice protein and uses coconut oil, cocoa butter, and canola oil for fat, coming in at 230 calories with 20 grams of protein. Since they're vegan, gluten-free, and soy free, these are a great option for those with soy allergies, but on account of their pea protein, they should be avoided by anyone with peanut or legume allergies.
