What's The Name Of Those Foil-Covered Strawberry Candies?
BY Deb Kavis
While many know the strawberry candies that feature a shiny foil wrapper resembling the fruit, the true name of this grandma-style candy is widely unknown.
Previously called "old-fashioned" candies around the late 1950s and '60s, these strawberry bon bons actually date back to 1860s France.
Strawberry bon bons appear to have had a similar use to cough drops. Over time, these drops evolved into fun candies, which became a more accessible luxury for enjoyment.
Although they are widely seen as grandma candies, strawberry bon bons are seeing a resurgence in popularity if for nothing more than the nostalgia factor.
