Why The Low Price Of Chicken Wings Is Unlikely To Last
By HOPE NGO
Inflated prices for food products are at an unfortunate high, but strangely enough, The U.S. Department of Agriculture has noted that the price of chicken wings has remained surprisingly low. Chicken wings have had an average price of $1.68 per pound since July 2022, their lowest cost since 2018.
Following the country's most intense period of COVID-19 isolation, during which fast food became very popular, the demand for chicken wings suddenly dropped, and so did their prices. However, with NFL season kicking off on September 8, food industry executives say chicken wing prices won't stay low for much longer.
Poultry executive and Pilgrim's Pride CEO Fabio Sandri warns that the industry "expects also the wings to start rising now coming the football and the basketball season." Given the expectations, we should enjoy cheap chicken wings while we have the chance — and maybe stick some in the freezer for game season.
