Why You Should Avoid The Pasta With Alfredo Sauce At Restaurants
BY NIKKI MUNOZ
Although Fettuccine Alfredo is a popular pasta dish that appears on countless restaurant menus, it shouldn’t be your go-to order at a well-respected restaurant.
Alfredo is a sauce made of Parmesan cheese, heavy cream, butter, and seasonings. Its simplicity is what makes it not worth ordering from a nice eatery.
Chef Raffaele Dall'Erta of South Carolina’s Hamptons Restaurant says, "Pasta Alfredo is a very lazy pasta dish. Anyone can make [it] at home and it will probably taste better.”
Instead, try cacio e pepe, a cheesy, creamy sauce that requires good technique and fresh ingredients. It's harder to make at home and thus more of a treat suitable for dining out.
If you want a more hearty dish, order lasagna, which takes a lot of time and effort to make. Either of these dishes allows a restaurant's ingredients and cooking style to shine.
