Why You Should Try Slicing Hot Dogs Before Grilling
By Haldan Kirsch
The hot dog has been a popular food item in America since the first Coney Island hot dog stand opened in 1870. Even though this food is an ancient tradition, it can still be improved upon and reinvented.
Slicing into hot dogs before grilling helps them to cook more evenly without losing any of the juices. Hot dogs can sometimes shrivel up shortly after they're taken off of the grill, so cutting shallow slices onto two opposite sides of the hot dogs will help them cook all the way through without turning the exterior to ash.
This should only be applied to skinless hot dogs, but you don’t have to worry, as that is the kind you usually find in the store. Additionally, anyone interested in going a step beyond can spiralize their hot dog to get a perfectly charred dog inside and out.
