Nestled among the restaurants and luxury stores of La Jolla, California’s Westfield UTC Mall lies a speakeasy called Raised by Wolves, hiding behind a high-end bottle shop.

You enter the speakeasy via a secret, spinning fireplace entrance, which gives way to an opulent bar with a fountain, gilded bar seats, and an emerald-green glass domed ceiling.

The bar is inspired by opulent European hotel bars. Bartender Erick Castro says, "What we were trying to do [...] was create an unexpected venue in an unexpected place."

Guests can savor a diverse drink menu featuring Negroni on tap, the popular Island Old-Fashioned, and a $790 Old Fashioned made with 1960s Old Fitzgerald Bourbon.

Castro said the bar’s main challenge is catering to both sophisticated drinkers as well as the average passerby using an “approachable” yet “inventive and creative” menu.
