With grilled cheese, texture is as crucial as flavor. So, if you want to give your grilled cheese an extra crunch with each bite, turn to the bag of potato chips in your pantry.
Crushed chips can give the sandwich a crunchy exterior that complements its melty interior. Their neutral flavor also pairs well with all types of breads, cheeses, and fillings.
Simply mix half a stick of softened butter, garlic powder, and mild cheddar cheese in a bowl. Then, crush potato chips into the mixture and stir until they form a thick paste.
Next, spread the paste onto the outside of your bread before assembling your grilled cheese as usual. Finally, cook it on the stove with a lid on until it turns crispy.
