Your Pyrex Needs To Be At Room Temperature Before Going In The Oven
By LENA BECK
With a popularity that spans decades, easy-to-clean, durable pieces of Pyrex glass cookware are go-to oven-safe containers for many cooks. However, they're not indestructible.
Given that it's made of glass, Pyrex cannot handle extreme temperature changes. It expands when hot and contracts when cold, and making this transition too quickly can shatter it.
You must allow a Pyrex dish to come to room temperature before you put it in the oven. Likewise, a dish filled with hot food must cool to room temp before putting it in the fridge.
If you're making a pie crust that needs chilling, freeze the crust in the Pyrex, remove the crust, leave it in the freezer, take the Pyrex out to warm up, and reunite them later.
