The Queen Vic's British Pub Fare | H Street Corridor, Washington D.C.
A new layer of spirits on H Street
H Street newcomer The Queen Vic looks and feels like a typical British pub. But the bar's nine signature cocktails are enough to shake up even the most pint-faithful.
Many of the cocktails are made with beer, and Guinness froths one of the best ones. Black Velvet ($7) pours a layer of the thick Irish stout over Prosecco for a slightly bitter fizz that would be excellent with the house-made charcuterie platter of head cheese, potted duck, pâté, foie gras and pickled clams ($25).
Cider, a pub classic, brings a tart effervescence to another set of cocktails. Cider and Black ($7) mixes crisp Strongbow with fruity Ribena, the U.K.'s omnipresent black-currant drink. The Snakebite ($7), a traditional lager-cider mix, has the palate-clearing balance to pair with the pub's bacon salad ($7), which arrives fat with lardons, cracklins and a soft-cooked egg.
A gingery Pimm's Cup is a light, refreshing choice for sipping on the newly opened back deck. Available by the glass ($7) or pitcher ($35), the cocktail's natural British match is an order of beer-battered fish with chips and mushy peas ($13).
End the evening with the thick, caramelized banoffee pie ($6) and a nightcap of Noel's Seduction ($8), a triple threat of coffee-flavored vodka, nutty Frangelico and stout.
It's a royal send-off.
