Cookies and ice cream never tasted better

Platine

Ice cream sandwiches are no longer just a childhood afterthought or a cheap date at Diddy Riese. Today's combination of fresh baked cookies and ice cream have a sophisticated slant with ingredients like Meyer lemons and Maldon sea salt. Check out what some local artisans are whipping up for this summer's "it" dessert.

Carmela Ice Cream Like her ice creams, Jessica Martarotti's new sandwiches ($5) are inspired by seasonal ingredients sourced from local farmers' markets. A crisp homemade Meyer lemon cookie with lavender-honey ice cream is a light, sweet treat; for pure decadence, try the dark chocolate and sea salt cookie with mint chocolate. Sold at the Carmela booth at the farmers' markets: Hollywood (Sun.), Culver City (Tues.), South Pasadena (Thurs.) and La Canada Flintridge (Sat.).

Coolhaus These high-concept ice cream sandwiches aren't quite the architectural wonders they're named after, but at least they're wrapped in edible paper. Go for "prefab" concoctions ($3.50) like the Frank Behry (sugar cookie with strawberry ice cream) or the Im Peinut Butter (peanut butter ice cream and chewy chocolate cookies). Track the roving truck on Twitter.

Platine Bakery You already know that Jamie Cantor's cookies are hard to resist, but coupled with Milk's homemade ice cream, they're downright addictive. Build your own sandwiches (pictured) from a list of fresh-baked cookies: The fudge-like Chocolate Galore and salted caramel ice cream combo is a flavor bomb.
