Sweet Pickles
Bob McClure preserves a family recipe
Bob McClure has been perfecting the art of pickling since the tender age of six.
The Brooklyn-based entrepreneur, who founded McClure's Pickles in 2006 with his brother, Joe, has quickly become a guru of the brine. His classic and nouveau-style pickles and relishes are now sold around the country.
But--as is the case with many artisans--McClure owes some of his success to his grandmother Lala, whose recipe he uses as the base for his famously zesty pickles.
If you're in need of a last-minute gift, you can order McClure's online or pick up a jar in any number of gourmet markets--especially in New York and Detroit, where Joe is based.
Or take this recipe from Bob and make your own gift: a batch of gingery pickled cauliflower. All that's missing is a ribbon.
