Miami's LoKal Burger Meet In Stores & Online

Take your burgers to the next level with LoKal beef

The namesake burger ($13) at LoKal Burgers & Beer in Coconut Grove is the stuff of meaty cravings.

A juicy, substantial patty, red onion, Monterey Jack and avocado are stuffed in a buttery challah bun. After tasting a burger like this, you won't be content to fling any old patty on the grill. But where to start your burger experimentation?

Begin at LoKal's source, Florida Fresh Meat. The Ocala company butchers beef from a handful of sustainable farms in north Florida. The cows graze on clover and grass, and owner Jan Costa dry-ages most of the beef to compound the earthy flavor. Order Angus burgers online ($15 for four ?-pound patties; $8 per pound of ground beef) and they should arrive in Miami via UPS in about a day.

Miami purveyor Seriously Protein also sources from Florida Fresh Meat and typically supplies chefs like Micah Edelstein. Once a month, though, home customers can order from a rotating list that might include burger-worthy ground beef ($8 per pound) or ground lamb ($10 per pound). Order by Friday at 5 p.m. at elke@seriouslyorganic.net ($35 minimum). They'll bring the meats down in their refrigerated truck for pickup the following week.
