'The East Hampton Star' Has A Glossy New Magazine
'East' is the glossy new magazine to read if you're a real Hamptons insider
The East Hampton Star is an institution. Founded in 1885, the newspaper's been a fixture on the East End for more than a century—no small feat in print journalism. The venerable, family-owned publication recently bucked the tide of digital media and launched a new glossy, quarterly print magazine last week.

That magazine is called East, and editor Biddle Duke is at the helm. The stories are for locals, not just visitors, and will highlight the best of the Hamptons year-round. They'll be "authentic, grounded, intelligent and stunning, just like the place that keeps us here," Duke says.
With contributors like author Michael Halsband, journalist and Vanity Fair contributing editor Michael Shnayerson, and writer and editor Bess Rattray on board, things are already off to a great start.
The first issue includes a story by naturalist Carl Safina about the inspiring view from his home at Lazy Point and another about a longtime East End family who has found a way to preserve their fishing and farming lifestyle for more than 300 years. From the food editor comes advice on how to snag a table, high or low season; the science behind what makes the best seat at a restaurant; and a prescription for what readers should be drinking this summer.
Seasonal visitor or not, you'll feel right at home as you flip through East's pages.
As Duke writes in an essay for the first issue, "We intend for East to stand out as the magazine for people who feel easternmost Long Island is home—could be your only, or your second or third home, but home."
