How To Help People Affected By Hurricane Harvey
5 ways you can make a difference
Hurricane Harvey has destroyed communities all over Houston, displacing millions of people from their homes and leaving immense destruction in its wake. As we watch the flood waters recede and residents begin to piece their lives back together, the question on everyone's mind is: What can I do to help?
From sending supplies to making cash donations, even the smallest offering is appreciated. Here are five ways you can help the people of Houston.
① The Greater Houston Community Foundation
Houston's Mayor Sylvester Turner established the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, which connects donors with other nonprofit organizations throughout the state.
② Airbnb Disaster Response Program
If you live near the area but weren't affected by the storm, you can be an Airbnb host and provide victims with a place to stay.
③ Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN)
In addition to donating supplies and money, many organizations are in need of volunteers to help with hands-on projects. ADRN is looking for people to sign up to assist with cleaning up the community and working in its thrift store putting together survival kits.
④ Houston Food Bank
Food banks throughout Texas like the Houston Food Bank are looking for nonperishable donations including canned meat, canned fruit, peanut butter and cereal. You can also make donations to Feeding Texas, a network of food banks across the state.
⑤ American Red Cross
For those who are not able to help in person, even a donation of $25 to the American Red Cross can make a difference. Remember: When you've lost everything, every bit helps.
