Aldi Whisky Best In The World

Plot twist: It's from a supermarket that's NOT Trader Joe's

Supermarket chain Aldi is at it again. Two of the store's in-house whisky labels just won gold at the 2018 Scotch Whisky Masters, the international blind-tasting competition held by The Spirits Business. Aldi's Highland Black Scotch whisky and Islay Single Malt Scotch whisky, priced at $17.39 and $23.42 respectively, beat out labels three times more expensive.

This isn't the first time the supermarket's in-house brands have received top billing. Aldi caught our attention last year after its rosé was declared the world's best.

Soon after, both Highland Black and Islay Single Malt won six silver medals at the International Spirits Challenge.

Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi UK, spoke to Insider, saying, "We are committed to bringing excellent value products to our shelves, and these results are further evidence of Aldi's unwavering consistency in sourcing only the highest quality spirits for our shoppers."

No word yet on when, if ever, the bottles will be available in the U.S. In the meantime, at least we've got Aldi rosé to tide us over.
