Trader Joe's Chicken Caesar Salad Is Being Recalled In 3 States
Trader Joe's is an eclectic, unique grocery store that specializes in their own brand of new and interesting products such as horchata inspired ice cream, ube spread, and chili pineapple kettle corn. Their refrigerated section features easy salad kits, which are great for a quick meal when you need to grab a bite and are on the go.
Food allergies are a serious health concern — for some people, they can even be deadly. Clearly marked packaging is crucial for customers to know what is in the food they buy, and avoid any risky contaminated items. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America reports that 50 million Americans suffer from allergies on an annual basis. They state that some of the most common allergies are peanuts, eggs, tree nuts, milk, sesame, and seafood. Per FDA regulation, these allergens must be clearly labeled on food packaging.
Trader Joe's ready to eat chicken Caesar salad is now facing a recall due to an unlabeled allergen contained in the pre-packaged meal.
An unlabeled allergen wound up in Trader Joe's Caesar salad with chicken
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service recalled Trader Joe's chicken Caesar salad over a failure to label a possible egg allergen on the product packaging, according to their website. They state that the prepackaged, ready-to-eat salads contain sauce packets, and some were packaged incorrectly with a Sweet and Spicy Vinaigrette, rather than the standard Creamy Caesar Dressing.
Though there have not yet been any confirmed cases of reactions due to this mix-up, the FSIS is taking precautions after being notified by the production plant. They report that the affected products have been recalled and are no longer for sale, but customers may have already purchased them in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. The FSIS urges people not to eat them.
If you find that your chicken Caesar salad from Trader Joe's is affected by this recall, you can return it to your local store for a refund or simply toss it in the trash.
